2017 Acura MDX Parts and Accessories

Overview

Despite our close ties with Acura USA as an authorized OEM Acura dealer, Bernardi Parts does not learn of new Acura model features until they are released to the public. So, like you, our Bernardi parts team must rely on Acura's press releases and 3rd party articles published on the internet for insight into the design features for the all-new 2017 MDX and 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid.

According to American Honda, the Acura MDX is Acura’s best selling SUV and the best-selling three-row SUV in its market segment. They expect the all-new 2017 Acura MDX to go on sale in the US in the summer of 2016.

The Acura MDX is one of six Acura models produced for the US market. They include:

  • ILX – Acura’s Sport Sedan
  • MDX – Acura’s 3-row Luxury SUV – now including the Three-Motor Sport Hybrid
  • NSX – Acura’s Electrified Supercar
  • RDX – Acura’s 5-Passenger Luxury Crossover
  • RLX – Acura’s Luxury sedan
  • TLX – Acura’s Performance luxury sedan

Bold New Styling

Car & Driver describes the exterior changes as giving the 2017 MDC“ … a cleaner, lower, and wider look" with the new griller giving it a “streamlined" look. CNet describes the MDX refresh as “anything but mild" – whose “font-end is sharper and more aggressive than it was before".

Front-End

Comparison of old and new MDX grillCar & Driver observed that the 2017 MDX is the first Acura to ditch the “signature shield griller" which they described as an “avian snout" – more brutal than beautiful". MotorAuthority.com describes the front-end change as “the beak is gone – replaced by a less controversioal trapezoidal “diamond pentagon" grille. The new pentagon-shaped grill is derived from the Precision Concept vehicle.

Headlights

Acura’s press conference for the 2017 MDX reports the all-new 2017 Acura MDX is equipped with restyled Jewel EyeTM headlights

  • Low beams: three outer LEDs on each light reveal the road more clearly without blinding oncoming traffic using precisely aimed lenses that focus the LED beam over a longer, wider area.
  • High beams: adds the two inner LEDs, illuminating distant objects 200 milliseconds sooner - at 60 mph, that is over 17 feet.
  • All LED lenses can act as daytime running lights - providing a distinctive light signature even in bright sunlight. According to Autoblog.com, there is now an auto high-beam feature.

Power Train

According to Car & Driver the new 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD shares its basic layout with that of the $157k NSX supercar.

  • gas-fed 3.0 liter V6 engine with fuel-saving cylinder-deactivation feature - smaller than the 3.5 liter V6 in the non-hybrid version of the MDX
  • supplemental electric motor at one end of the car
  • two electric motors located at the opposite end

Greater Horsepower than standard MDX

MotorAuthority.com expects the MPG ratings of the MDX to become more thrifty but “…it doesn’t come at the cost of performance" with the new Sport Hybrid. Acura expects the configuration of its Sport Hybrid MDX will generate out 325 horsepower – 35 more than the regular MDX’s 3.5 liter six. Of the 325 horsepower, 257 are contributed by the V6 and the remaining 68 are contributed by the electric motors. They suggest it will offer 26 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city – 7 mpg higher than the traditional 2016 MDX.

Transmission

Car & Driver also points out the fact that the front electric-motor in the Sport Hybrid MDX’s is configured with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission while the standard MDX uses a conventional nine-speed automatic.

Honda’s Super Handling-All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD)

Car & Driver also points focusses us on the fact that the traditional MDX uses a rear-differential for AWD while the Sport Hybrid MDX uses the industries next generation AWD: Honda’s Super Handling-All Wheel Drive – using torque-vectoring.

Suspension

According to Autoblog.com, buyers opting for the optional Technology or Advance packages will also get an Active Sport Suspension with Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Sport + modes.

Acura's 360 Surround viewif you opt for a higher MDX trim-level, it is much easier to park your MDX with its optional Surround View Camera System. Four exterior cameras together give you a 360 view of the space immediately around your MDX through the navigation display. Camera buttons allow you to switch among the six camera views.

  • Select Reverse, and you are automatically given the traditional rear camera view plus an overhead 360 view. Guidelines appear in each view which correspond with the angle of the front wheels angle to show your rearward path. A press of either camera button switches to show the rear view alone, and another press shows a wide-angle rear view.
